
In the summer of 2013, I sent an email to Professor Neal Devaraj with a project proposal on creating synthetic ribosomes. He invited me to work on it in his lab, which I did over the summer.

The following summer, I applied to an internship program called "Life Sciences Summer Institute" in San Diego. Of the several hundred applicants, I was one of the eleven to participate in the program at the Salk Institute. I worked as a paid intern in Dr. Panda's Regulatory Biology Lab under my mentor Cindy Liu for both the summer of 2014 and the summer of 2015
